Is I Peter 1:15-16 a misprint? Is holiness possible in our lives? Does God really expect that from us? We know that holiness does not come naturally for mankind. Consider II Timothy 3:1-5. People in the last days are characterized as unholy. They have a form of godliness, but it is a hologram (appearance only). It is not true godliness and holiness. They are hypocrites and not genuine. It is a new form of Christianity which is described. II Timothy 4:3 describes a religious people which have chosen their own teachers and their own form of doctrine and Christianity. What they have is not from God and is not characterized by holiness. They cannot endure the thought of forsaking their sin and pride. Whether they be religious or not lost people cannot be holy. It is not in their nature. They naturally walk according to the course of this world which is opposed to God’s Words. They are children of disobedience and not children of God. Consider Ephesians 2:1-3. Their prince is not opposed to religion but is opposed to holiness. Consider Romans 1:18,21-22. The result of such a society is found in Romans 1:24,26-27. They knew the truth but could not bear the truth. The wanted to have God and unrighteousness and one can never join God to unrighteousness. Those who try will be destroyed. Saints are called out of this world and are to be holy. Consider Ephesians 5:27, Ephesians 4:21-24, Romans 6:1,17-22, I Thess 4:1-7 & Hebrews 12:10.
Is it possible for the believer to be holy? Can we live a holy life? How is this possible? Consider that we have been saved through the Holy One – the Lord Jesus Christ. He never sinned and we have been made partakers of the Divine Nature. Consider II Peter 1:1-4. Consider that we have been given the Holy Scriptures. Consider that we have been given the Holy Spirit. Consider that we pray to the Father who has the Holy angels at His throne and is worshipped continually with the words Holy, Holy, Holy. Consider that there were Holy Apostles that handed down our doctrine and faith and that there were holy women of old time that adorned themselves with true modesty in spirit and appearance. Consider that the scripture was penned down by holy men of God and consider the Holy prophets of old. The path of holiness has been trodden by the true Christians and no less is expected of us.
